1888-1893 - first single phase AC system

- 2x300hp water wheel turbines
- 4kv to Portland

1893 - 1st 3-phase
- 2.3kV
- South California Edison Company

1893-1969 - frequency varied from 25Hz-133Hz
- however due to interconnection, US & Canada fixed 60Hz while Europe;50Hz

1969 - EHV; 765kV commercially used

1970 - Pacific Intertie (Oregon-California)
- 400kV
- 850 miles
